JAKSON
SPIRES’ FINAL DAYS SPENT IN THE RECORDING STUDIO
"Jakson Spires spent his final days writing and recording music with
former Blackfoot bass guitarist, Lenny Stadler, and Guitarist Scott Mabrey from the Southern Rock Allstars. The idea actually
began in May 2004, when Jakson Spires called his long-time friend and former Blackfoot bass guitarist Lenny Stadler (1972-1973)
in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jakson and Lenny talked and decided that it had been too long since the two of them had seen
each other and played music together. Both Jakson and Lenny had been working on their own new songs. “It’s been nearly 30
years and we’re not getting any younger, man. Time is short, so let’s get together soon,” said Jakson. In December 2004, Jakson
invited Scott Mabrey, lead guitarist from the Southern Rock Allstars, to travel to Charlotte to play with him and Stadler
in a recording studio. When these three came together, they immediately knew their music had a unique sound from anything
they had ever heard or played. It was only logical to write and record an album project together. The recording project commenced
in January 2005 for about ten days, and for two more weeks in February. Then Jakson and Scott returned to Charlotte, North
Carolina on Friday, March 4th to continue writing and recording. The trio worked until the final song was locked in with all
drum/bass guitar tracks recorded, on Saturday, March 12th. As Lenny, Jakson and Scott said their goodbyes to each other on
that Saturday evening the three musicians had no idea that it would be the last time they all would be together. Within twenty-four
hours of their departure, Jakson suffered a brain aneurism that took his life on Wednesday, March 16th. Shocked and devastated
by his sudden death, Lenny Stadler and Scott Mabrey are very thankful that they had these last days with one of the greatest
drummers in rock-n-roll history. The loss of Jakson has left all of us feeling empty, but the memory of his life will live
on through his music. No doubt, these eleven songs recorded in the final days of his life will leave the final legacy of his
gifted musical talents for present and future generations to come".
